Globally, wind speeds increase
- closer to the coast
- and with higher elevation.
The local topography can dramatically effect the windspeed, for example,
wind crossing a mountain range is squeezed between the land and the air above
it and so speeds up as it crosses the top. This also occurs to a lesser extent
over individual hills. If the land is steep enough or there are large objects,
a wind shadow or excessive turbulence can occur. An idea of how the wind is
effected is shown below.

Denmark is about as far east as the Karri grows. Karri trees can grow to 60+ metres and so at least 600m between
a windturbine and nearest karri tree is required. We are considering 50m towers
for the Denmark turbines, so further distances are required.
